Autumn Has Arrived!

It’s finally the Autumn Equinox, Sept 22nd. At exactly 6:03pm PST today I’ll be breaking out the cozy sweaters, autumnal teas, the crock pot, and pumpkin spice.

Autumn is hands down my favorite time of the year. The chilly, crisp air, foggy mornings, and falling leaves make my heart fill with joy. There’s nothing I want to do more in life than take a long walk on a chill, cloudy day wrapped in a cozy jacket and warm scarf. Bonus if the leaves on the ground crunch when I step on them. There’s just something about the smell of the season that calls to me. It’s probably the scent of decaying vegetation from all the dying leaves, but it does smell fantastic. If I could find a candle that holds the same scent, I’d buy a dozen right now.

Autumn is also home to my favorite holiday: Halloween. I’m a sucker for any reason to dress up and eat candy. I love the creepy and the spooky. I start celebrating Halloween so early that it’s probably still considered summer but I don’t even care. Come September 1st, I’m gearing up for the Halloween extravaganza at my house. Planning decorations, deciding on costumes, baking themed spooky or cute but delicious treats, and loading up plenty of old school horror flicks and Halloween classics. Honestly, I’ve probably even seen Hocus Pocus 20 times in the last 4 years and am PSYCHED for the new one coming out!

One thing I’d really like to do this year is visit a town that is all about autumn or Halloween. I live too far away from Salem, MA, which I hear is amazing in October, and where I do live, not too many people go all out in celebrating anymore. This year, we decided to take a weekend trip down to St. Helens, OR which is where Halloweentown was filmed! The town goes all out for the event, including special appearances by actors from the movies (and other scifi/horror flicks), a haunted house, and fun activities. It’s pretty far away from where we live (about 3 hours give or take with traffic), but a good road trip during Autumn can always be fun!

What kinds of things do you do to celebrate Autumn and/or Halloween? Corn mazes? Pumpkin patches? Cooked-all-day-stews? Pumpkin Spice everything? Let me know! And feel free to suggest some towns you love to visit during Autumn, too!
