I first heard about this book on Alexandra Roslyn’s YouTube channel a while back and thought it looked beautiful. It’s my second Autumn TBR book I’ve completed this fall and let me just say, WOW, what a great little fairy tale this was! It was the perfect amount of cozy and enchanting for the season. There’s even a little mention of autumn in the book and it made me feel so super snug and comfy.
A loving mother. A missing father. A little cottage in the woods. A cat named Earl Grey. A boy who lives underground. And a bear who decides to come inside. Throw in some magic and wonder and a dash of mischief and mystery. Snow & Rose is an enchanting fairytale about sisters who don’t quite know they are living in a fairytale.
Emily Winfield Martin has woven together lots of little bits and pieces, made them magical, and given them life in a fanciful forest tale of love, friendship, family, and growing up. Snow & Rose is charmingly well written and the beautiful illustrations are breathtaking, bringing the story to life. If you’re on the fence about this book, just pick it up and check out the illustrations – they are just so wonderful you’ll need to take it home.
If you loved fairytales growing up, then this is the book for you. Readers of all ages will appreciate the care and thoughtfulness put into making this story cozy and inviting. It’s a simple story that tells of a whimsical tale in an enchanting forest.
I felt that a few spots were a little too slow to keep the intended reader’s attention (8-12 year olds) but hopefully the illustrations will help. However, I will read this again on nights where I feel like a cozy, warm story that meanders through enchantment.
