In my long history of reading adventures, I’ve met a lot of characters, some good, some bad, and some that stick to us like glue with bubbling personalities, who are witty, charismatic, and devastatingly charming. We fall in love with them through the happy moments and become attached to them based on how they handle conflict and tragedy. I have many, many characters from over the years that make me smile but today I’ll share just a handful with you. Maybe we have some in common! Let’s join @Functionally Fictional in listing a few of my favorites. Be sure to visit her blog and join in on the fun!

Lizbeth Rose – Gunnie Rose Series by Charlaine Harris
Lizbeth is a strong female character that knows her worth and what is important to her. She’s brave, responsible, trustworthy, and honest. She’s great with a gun, isn’t scared of bullies, and works hard to do what’s right. I love her personality and how she approaches life’s complications (especially when dealing with attractive Russian Gregori’s).

Waldo Butters – Dresden Files Series by Jim Butcher
Butters is probably my favorite character in all of the Dresden Files, even more so than Harry himself. He’s adorable, intelligent, and always makes me smile when he shows up on the pages.
“We are not going to die.”
-Jim Butcher, Dead Beat
Butters stared up at me, pale, eyes terrified. “We’re not?”
“No. And do you know why?” He shook his head. “Because Thomas is too pretty to die. And because I’m too stubborn to die.” I hauled on the shirt even harder. “And most of all because tomorrow is Oktoberfest, Butters, and polka will never die.”

Adolin Kholin – Stormlight Archive Series by Brandon Sanderson
I can’t say whether or not Adolin is the best character in the series, but I sure do enjoy his moments in the books. He’s charming, charismatic, and full of concern over his wardrobe options. Adolin tends to be honorable and strives to do right in a world where it’s so easy to do wrong. He is a fierce friend, dedicated countryman, and probably the best duelist in all of Roshar.

♩♫♪♫♩ – Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir
Probably one of my favorite characters of all time, I cannot help but crack a smile whenever I read passages featuring him. No spoilers for those who have not yet read this book, but for those of you who have, you know who I’m talking about. ♫♩♩♪♩♬

Maggie Hoskie – The Sixth World Series by Rebecca Roanhorse
Another strong female character makes this list. Maggie is a Navajo post-apocalyptic survivor who uses clan powers to fight monsters. She’s a take-no-crap kind of chick who is not afraid to get dirty when things get messy. I love how her strong attitude mixes with her core beliefs in a way that seems to make her both formidable and vulnerable at the same time.
