Book Review – The Ex Hex

After suffering a bad end to a summer fling with the gorgeous Rhys, Vivian places a curse on him using a plain old Bath and Body Works candle… She doesn’t think anything happened, but 9 years later, Rhys returns to town and things get interesting. Together they try to fix the ley lines (as recharging them is part of his family duty), have some exciting adventures in getting reacquainted, and break the curse that Vivian created.

I’ll be honest, when I picked this up, I thought it was something different but I will admit that I was pleased that the story was a little more on the naughty side than the cozy side. Don’t get me wrong, it is super cozy, but it’s also got a lot of sexy stuff going on (not at all in the realm of complete erotica but toes the line in a classy sort of way). I think that without the sexy stuff, the book wouldn’t have been able to keep readers interested and it would have fallen completely flat.

The story was pretty basic, the characters were pretty cookie cutter, and the book was pretty tropey. BUT, that being said, it was still mostly enjoyable. I’d definitely classify this as a sexy-cozy-autumnal-witch-romance and if you’re looking for something simple and easy to read to go with the Halloween season then pick this up, you might enjoy it as a junk-food-read.

I gave this book 3 out of 5. I think that once through was enough for me and I probably won’t pick it up again.

  1. […] What did you recently finish reading? This week, I finished The Ex Hex by Erin Sterling. This was a middle-of-the-road junk food type of book for me. It was cheesy, tropey, and slightly annoying, but I enjoyed it as a quick read anyways. I gave it 3 out of 5 for my review, which was more than I though at the half way point. Check out my review of The Ex Hex here.. […]
