#13 of The Dresden Files.
After the ending of Changes, this book was an interesting take on what happens next for our favorite Wizard PI Harry Dresden. This review will be dry and unspecific because I don’t want to spoil anything for anyone, so I’ll just say that this addition to the Dresden world was excellently well done. Butcher should be proud of the success he had in doing what he did to his main character. He might be brutal and willing to cause his readers to cry, but he does it in a way that brings it all back around in the end so that it makes total sense.
Part of the reason I enjoyed this book so much was because the story highlights Molly, Harry’s apprentice. It was nice to see her character development over the books, going from some ding-dong teenager who had a hard crush on Harry, to becoming this powerful witch in her own right. I also really enjoyed all the Butters moments – he is my favorite character in the series after all. Pretty much anyone who has been an ally to Harry over the years makes an appearance in this book, which was great!
That all being said though, if you are unsure whether to read this one or not (it really is a transitional piece of the storyline), please do so. The ending, specifically the last 10 pages make it entirely worth it. Let’s just say that Mab, Queen of the Winter Court, makes an appearance and some major happenings take place that will shape future books in the series in a BIG way.
I know this review is really lacking in detail, but like I said, I don’t want to spoil anything and basically saying anything about Harry is, in itself, a spoiler.
I gave this book 5 out of 5. Harry rocks and I cannot get enough of him.
