Marra sets out to save her sister from a tyrannical, abusive husband (who happens to be a Prince). In order to kill the prince, she’s given 3 impossible tasks to complete and sent on a journey across two kingdoms. Along the way, she gains friends, finds love, has an adventure, and does the truly impossible.
I didn’t know much about the book, aside from the description, so I went into it with a mostly blank slate. Let me tell you, I was hooked from page 1! Marra is such a unique and lovely character, I fell for her almost immediately. She’s a princess who lives with nuns and cares deeply about her sisters. She doesn’t let reality get her down and never stops when things get difficult.
I loved the whole story, the characters, the way the tale was straightforward and didn’t meander too much. It was a fresh feeling fairytale (complete with fairy godmothers!) full of lessons about life, ridiculous happenings, and a chicken possessed by a demon. If you’re looking for a fun adventure with a little darkness, then pick it up! It was an amazing read.
I gave this book 4 out of 5. I will read it again and I look forward to trying it out on audiobook.
