A prison ship broken down and in need of assistance finds a drifting, derelict Star Destroyer. After sending a team to investigate the Imperial ship, a disease is unleashed on the occupants of the prison, killing nearly everyone, in unimaginable horror, within just hours. Death Troopers tells the story of the very few survivors and their fight to escape the doomed ships before they become victims to the nightmare that’s lurking at every corner.
I love Star Wars, and I love zombies. I went into this expecting to be happy about the read, so it’s no shock that I loved it. Now normally, I don’t read many reviews before picking up a book, but I did see that this one was rated pretty low by the Goodreads Star Wars community. However, I think that the reviews posted about this book are not justified. If you enjoy Star Wars and zombies, then this book is a good, entertaining fit. There’s death, gore, terror, horrors, tragedy, sadness, and hope. I think that most people giving this book a low review expected too much from the premise and/or did not personally feel that a zombie genre fit in the Star Wars universe. I completely disagree – this book was exciting, interesting, gruesome, and utilizing nightmarish ways to further subjugate the galaxy was just up the Empire’s alley. So, if you’ve been on the fence about reading it, pick it up and check it out yourself. Unless you’re a die-hard Star Wars canon purist (they exist, we can’t do anything about them), you’ll probably have a decent time. Plus, it has Han and Chewy in it so how could you not give it a read!?
I gave this book 4 out of 5. I would have liked it to be a little longer, but the meat of the tale was excellent and I highly recommend listening to the audiobook (it has atmospheric sounds). I will listen to this again and it’ll probably find it’s place of honor in my top 5 favorite zombie books of all time.

[…] don’t want to start out too deep. Check out my review of All Systems Red here.I also finished Death Troopers (Star Wars) by Joe Schreiber. I loved it and thought it was well done. It’s short, it’s dirty, and it’s fun. […]
