Since this week’s topic is about genre preference and being able to predict which genres other people enjoy. This week’s topic was chosen by Fives @ Down the Rabbit Hole.

What is your favorite genre and why?

I’m going to have to say Fantasy on this one because I read a lot of it and that’s where most of my favorite books are found. However, Horror also hits as a close runner up.

Is there a reason why those particular genres speak to you or capture your interest?

Yes! I love reading books that feature fantastical elements. Magic & Monsters all the way!

What is your least favorite genre and why?

Memoirs. A couple years ago I tried reading some memoirs from famous folks I was fond of and it just made me dislike most of them. So I don’t really read them much anymore.

Is the genre the biggest determination of whether you look for and choose a book, or is it something else?

I would say that the genre is usually the starting point when I look for books to read but I get easily distracted by books due to pretty covers so I’ll often stray away from Fantasy, Horror, Science Fiction into Romance and Mystery.

Do you find that you are able to predict what kind of genres people like based on their personalities?

I’ve gotten pretty good at guessing what kinds of books people read, but only after we’ve known each other for more than 5 minutes.

Do you notice patterns in which kinds of people like certain genres?

Oh yes. I don’t like to stereotype it, but you can usually tell who reads uplifting self-help non-fics, cozy mysteries, or cheesy romance books just by their general personal styles.
