A young woman trying to feed her family, kills a wolf in the forest. Later, a fey creature busts through the door of their home and demands that she return to his land with him, threatening that if she does not do it, she will be breaking the treaty between fey and humans. To save her family, she goes. Little does she know that this is just the beginning of an adventure to a world she doesn’t understand, where court games run rampant, and where secrets, dark challenges, and the attention of two high fey princes will change her life forever.
I put off reading this book for a long time but I’m glad I finally picked it up. I won’t go so far as to say that it’s an amazing story but it was rather entertaining and enjoyable. It followed a pretty standard YA fantasy romance structure but felt more like a New Adult level read with the kind of smut that was in it. The characters were fun, and I’m a big fan of tall, dark, broody, and powerful. I thought that Feyre was a little one-dimensional and could have used some work, but it wasn’t so bad that I disliked her – I actually thought her interesting. Enemies-to-lovers is probably my favorite romance trope, and this one did an okay job with it, but I liked Rhysand more than Tamlin (who was a bit of a push over and nice in a weird way).
I gave this book 4 out of 5. I might read it again, but I will definitely read the next in the series, just to see what happens with Rhysand…
