Employees at a knock-off Ikea competitor are finding unusual things that seem to happen overnight, while the store is closed. Since corporate is doing a visit, the assistant manager decides to find out what is causing the disruptions and enlists two employees to stay over night with him. Things go spectacularly wrong in the most unbelievable way and come dawn, the lives of everyone involved may be damaged forever.
I’ve tried one other book by Grady Hendrix, and after DNFing My Best Friend’s Exorcism, I should have known better than to expect something different from his writing. I’m usually into paranormal and supernatural horror but this book fell completely flat for me. I do think that Hendrix is good at stringing words together in a melodic way, but the meat of his storytelling just doesn’t jive with my preferences.
I gave this book 2 out of 5, only because I thought that his characters were well done. This one was very quick on audiobook so I finished it, but had I been reading it, it would have been another DNF.
