After losing her son and husband to kidnappers, Theodora is keeping a low profile and trying to heal from the painful trauma. The kidnappers were never caught, and a year later her life remains in danger. With 24 hour security and a broken heart, she stays out of the spot light of social events, but fate has plans for her and introduces her to someone who may provide just the healing she needs.
Mike shows up in the right place, at the right time, and the two quickly fall for each other. Being that he’s a CIA Agent, he has to return to Washington but visits Theodora in France as frequently as possible. However, another tragedy strikes just when things were getting good between them, turning Theodora’s life upside down once again.
I found Suspects to be a weirdly cozy romance, thriller mystery mix that I loved. This is the first Danielle Steel novel I’ve read and I was surprised at how much I liked the characters, the story, the suspense, and all the little details. It was emotionally touching, painfully tragic, and romantically adorable. I don’t usually read books this contemporary but I wanted to try something new for the end of the year, and I was pleasantly surprised.
I gave this book 4 out of 5. I don’t know that I’ll read this one again, but I will plan to check out other Danielle Steel works in the future.
