#3 in the Murderbot Diaries.
Looking for answers about it’s mysterious, possibly violent past, Murderbot heads to Milu, the planet where it all went wrong. It has to venture out without a link to SecSystem or ART, since they’d parted ways, so it has to manage figuring things out without the extra processing power, which adds a lot of difficulty to the mission. Along the way, Murderbot makes friends with Miki, another bot with a surprisingly unique relationship with it’s owner. With the help of Miki and the team, Murderbot discovers that GreyCris Corporation has been lying to a lot of people about their work on Milu, and the revelation could change everything.
Murderbot’s personality has got to be my favorite out of all the books I’ve read in 2022 (90+). It’s antisocial behavior and tendency to want alone time resonates deeply with me. And, once again, the rest of the characters introduced in this book were fantastically developed and very well written. They were all unique with interesting character traits (like a bot who had never, ever been mistreated, abused, or lied to and it’s relationship with it’s owner being based on friendship).
The story into GreyCris gets some answers that lead to more questions, but the overarching story is getting along well. At the end, Murderbot makes a possibly dangerous decision that could have a lot of ramifications for it and I’m excited to see how it turns out in book #4.
I gave this book 5 out of 5. Pick it up if you want to have a fun read about the best SecUnit around.
