Sophomore novel by the STEMenist author who is blazing exciting trails in nerdy romance.
After parting ways in grad school, Bee finds herself partnered with her nemesis, Levi, on a ground-breaking project for NASA. The two scientists orbit around each other, acting awkward and completely misunderstanding pretty much everything about the situation. As the pair grows closer and deadlines are pushed up on the project, neither Bee or Levi notice the danger lurking in their midst. Could this threat ruin everything?
Bee and Levi are two sciency nerds with jobs that have them doing work for NASA. Basically living my dream. I found their level of science-geek to be well balanced so that readers who aren’t into science stuff could still enjoy it. The rest of the other characters have very unique personalities and I enjoyed their interactions.
My only issue with this novel was how damaged Bee’s self-worth seemed to be. It was off putting but that’s probably just a me-thing (I don’t think that’s a trait I’m fond of in romance books). Other than that, I thought it was pretty great and I loved all the geeky pop culture references.
I’ve read the three novellas by Ali Hazelwood and I thought they were really good and highly entertaining, so I had some reservations about how long her other two novels are (I’ve yet to read The Love Hypothesis, it’s on hold at the library) but this one flew by at a steady pace. I was never bored and I never felt rushed. It was the prefect size for my personal preferences.
I listed to this on audiobook, narrated by Brooke Bloomingdale, and it rocked! She really did a wonderful job bringing these characters to life and she has a great range of voices. I listened to it at a 1.5x speed which is normal for my preferences.
I gave this book 4 out of 5. I really liked it and I will listen to this again just to re-experience Brooke Bloomingdale’s performance. It was that enjoyable!
