#4 in the Sookie Stackhouse series.
Driving home from work late at night, Sookie finds the vampire Erik Northman running down a secluded road, nearly naked and very confused. She picks him up, only to discover that Erik is not quite his usual, arrogant self. With Erik’s memory gone, some new badass witches in town, and her brother Jason mysteriously missing, Sookie finds herself in over her head with not many leads to go on. Something is very wrong in her little corner of Louisiana and she needs the help of all her new friends to figure out what’s happening.
A lot takes place in this book, that once again sets the stage for many story arcs later in the series. Harris does a great job running two separate and unrelated story lines that involve many known and many new characters. We find out about different kinds of supernatural creatures, and learn that vampires aren’t the only ones with crazy power. If you’re a Bill fan, you may be disappointed because he’s written to be on an assignment in Peru for the complete length of the book (which was fine with me because he’s definitely not a favorite of mine). Alcide Herveaux also makes a reappearance, along with the Long Tooth pack, so we get to meet more werewolves.
I gave this book 5 out of 5. This is my favorite book in the series. I’m definitely Team Sam, but let me just put it out there: memory-missing Erik is the best.
