Jennette McCurdy gives the world a glimpse into her childhood and the life-long battles she’s had to face because of her upbringing and being forced into acting as a child.
This was a difficult audiobook to listen to. Jennette has been through so much in her short life and having the courage to share it all in such a public way must have been so difficult, but ultimately therapeutic for her. This book is filled with painful descriptions of her day to day life growing up and how it all revolved around pleasing her mother.
I’m not going to go into the details she describes about her life and what it was like growing up with the total, and complete focus of her narcissistic mother’s interest because that’s her story to tell, but I will say that everyone should read this book. It’s easy to think that these child stars have great lives, but behind closed doors, things can be very different in a bad kind of way.
I am not giving this book a rating because I don’t believe in rating someone’s life story, but I do highly recommend this read. If you have the unfortunate luck in life to have a narcissist in your family, this book might come as an eye-opener for you. Give it a try.
