First Line Friday is a weekly feature for book lovers hosted by Wandering Words. What if instead of judging a book by its cover, its author or its prestige, we judged it by its opening lines?
The Rules:
- Pick a book off your shelf (it could be your current read or on your TBR) and open to the first page
- Copy the first few lines, but don’t give anything else about the book away just yet – you need to hook the reader first.
- Finally… reveal the book!
-The First Lines-
Dawn is breaking when she creeps from the house. The air is cool and fresh; birds are singing in the trees. Everywhere, the sound of the sea, the world’s greatest metronome, beating beneath a velvety sky of diminishing stars.
Any guesses?

“A riveting standalone novel about a group of survivors on a hidden island utopia – where the truth isn’t what it seems.”
This one sounds pretty crazy. A paradise where people live heathy and happy until their health and mental wellbeing falls below 10%. When this happens, they are taken to “retirement”. This story is about a ferryman who shepherds these people through the process.. until his own monitor drops to 10%. Then, things get weird.
I’m planning to read this one this summer! It sounds fantastic!
