In theme with October’s Halloween-ness, this week we’re listing our favorite Books with Witches, Wizards, and Warlocks. Some of my all-time favorite books are listed this week! Let’s join @Functionally Fictional and the rest of the book-blogging-community. Be sure to visit her blog and join in on the fun!

Ilya “Eli” Savarov from the Gunnie Rose Series
The Gunnie Rose series features wizards from the Holy Roman Empire, which are called Gregori in reference to Rasputin. They have little vests they wear filled with magical items and powders they use to enhance their magic. You can start reading this series with An Easy Death by Charlaine Harris.

Harry Dresden from the Dresden Files Series
The only professional wizard in Chicago. Harry Dresden has got to be in the top 10 favorite wizards of all time for me. He’s rough around the edges, wears a leather duster, and carries a staff with authority. He’s respectable, honest, and believes in doing what’s right, even if it might hurt him. You can start his series with Storm Front by Jim Butcher.

Hermione Granger from the Harry Potter Series
Born a muggle who grows up to be Minster of Magic?? She has got to be my role model for sure. As I go through school, I always imagine working hard like Hermione and getting the work done like the boss she is. You can start the Harry Potter series with Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone by JK Rowling (Philosopher’s Stone for non-US readers).

Zeddicus Zu’l Zorander from The Sword of Truth series
I learned a great many wisdoms about life from Zedd while going through this series. He was the grandfather I wish I had. You can start the Sword of Truth series with Wizard’s First Rule by Terry Goodkind (RIP).

Howl Jenkins/Pendragon from Howl’s Moving Castle
“You must admit I have a right to live in a pigsty if I want.” Howl is the most fun wizard on the list. He’s charming, irritating, talented, and a huuuuge baby about the silliest things – I don’t know how Sophie puts up with him. If you have not yet read (or watched) Howl’s Moving Castle by Diana Wynne Jones, please do so immediately!
